Ultrasound-Guided Foam Sclerotherapy
Ultrasound-Guided Foam Sclerotherapy (UGFS), sometime referred to as Endovenous Chemical Ablation, is a highly specialized technique pioneered in Europe and now used worldwide to treat varicose vein disease. UGFS treats even the largest varicose veins without surgery including varicose veins that may have recurred after a previous surgery.
Is UGFS
Right For You?
For most patients, RFA is the best starting point to treat their vein conditions like varicose veins. After that, we either use Ambulatory Phlebectomy or UGFS to treat the remaining problematic veins. UGFS allows us to treat larger or recurring veins that the other treatments can’t handle. There are some factors we consider when deciding your treatment plan such as if a patient is pregnant or breastfeeding or if there are other complications that make EVLT less suitable.
Our staff will go over your specific treatment during your consultation.
Three Easy Steps To Happier, Healthier Legs
At ETVC, we’ve spent years perfecting our treatment plans for patients with common disorders and conditions. Because of our expertise in this field, we’ve simplified the process and most patients see results in as little as two treatments.
Step One: A Quick, In-Office Procedure
First, we make an ultrasound map of the entire diseased venous network, and then, under direct ultrasound visualization, we inject foamed sclerosant into the diseased veins which causes them to gradually close. Over time, the veins narrow to fibrous threads which are invisible since they are beneath the skin.
Ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy is ideal for “cleaning up” any remaining vein disease in the legs. We can use it to treat large areas of veins in the least amount of time.
Step Two: You Can Get Back to Your Day Immediately Afterwards
Patients will experience some mild bruising and swelling immediately after treatment, so we recommend wearing compression stockings for a period of time.
Our team performs the procedure in-office, and it doesn’t require general or spinal anesthetic or narcotic pain medications. Patients are able to resume their normal activities immediately.
Ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy is an essential portion of treatment for most patients with varicose veins to relieve pain from persistent unseen varicose veins and reduce the recurrence of visible swollen veins.
Step Three: Schedule the Next Steps
After your procedure, we will schedule another visit to make sure that the treated vein is closed, and we will plan the next phase of your treatment in order to eliminate all sources of your vein disease.
Not all patients will see the results immediately after this first procedure because some of the varicose veins will likely be too narrow or twisted for an endovenous catheter to pass through. This is why we follow endovenous thermal ablation with our other safe and effective treatments: microphlebectomy and/or ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy.
Patients typically require just two or three treatments, though some need more. Do you want legs that look and feel better? Enjoy reduced pain and more youthful-looking legs with our treatments.
