Ambulatory Phlebectomy
After the initial step of endovenous thermal ablation, you’ll likely need one of our other treatments—such as Ambulatory phlebectomy—to fully treat your vein disease.
We perform Ambulatory phlebectomy, or microphlebectomy, when patients have large, visibly bulging varicose veins that persist after endovenous thermal ablation. These veins are typically too twisted for an endovenous catheter to pass through them, so they must be treated in another manner.

Right For You?
For most patients, RFA is the best starting point to treat their vein conditions like varicose veins. Ambulatory Phlebectomy is often required after to fully clear up the problematic veins. When deciding a treatment plan, there are some factors we consider like if the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding, or if the patient presents other reasons why this procedure may not be suitable for them.

Three Easy Steps To Happier, Healthier Legs

Step One: An In-Office Procedure That Takes Around 2 Hours
As with endovenous thermal ablation, Microphlebectomy is an in-office procedure that requires only local anesthesia, no hospitalization. It is typically completed in 1-2 hours. We anesthetize the vein locally and then make a small needle puncture over it to allow a “knitting hook” type instrument to extract the vein. We don’t use a scalpel, and you won’t need stitches. The only thing you’ll feel is some pressure.
Step Two: You Can Get Back to Your Day Immediately Afterwards
We will put a bandage on your leg that you can remove after two days, and our physicians will advise you to wear a compression stocking for a week. The treatment should cause most of the visible veins to disappear, and there is usually no visible scar. Any bruising or firm lumps will typically dissipate as the leg continues to heal.
Step Three: Schedule the Next Steps
You can have legs that look and feel better. Enjoy reduced pain and more youthful-looking legs with our vein treatments. Leave the bandages intact and follow our release instructions to ensure your legs and veins heal properly.
We will usually follow up with patients at this point to see how the treatment is doing and if further treatments will be necessary.
